Marakaibo @ Θεσσαλονίκη 2012
Marakaibo were created at 2010. Our group consists of five members, studying percussion in the department of music science and art in university of Macedonia at Thessaloniki. As a group we are inspired from Greek traditional music and we enjoy playing rhythms and melodies that exist in this music. Our influences consist of Balkan, Armenian, Turkish, Arabic, Indian, Latin and Brazilian music. Many times we combine elements from the music traditions that are described above creating a style of our own. All the members of Maracaibo play mainly percussion instruments, so Marakaibo is mainly a percussion group. Nevertheless, some of our members play and other instruments, such as piano, guitar and cello. Sometimes we use these instruments too in our compositions. Despite the fact that Markaibo are a relatively new group, we have performed in various places in Greece and abroad. Specifically, in Greece we have performed at the music hall of Thessaloniki and at many other concerts organized by the University of Macedonia throughout Greece. As far as the performances we had abroad, recently we took part in a competition held by red bull about freestyle percussion, called tum tum pa. From all the teams that took part in Greece, we took the first place, so we went to the world finals at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
